10 ways to turn anything into Art.
With all the different ideas about what art is and isn’t… who does what and why, I decided to put together a little how to guide for turning almost anything into “art”.
1. Find something or someone long dead, and encrust it with jewels or something else expensive. While it’s probably breaking a few laws to go dig up one of your ancestors, there is always road kill.
2. Take something common or naked and make it absolutely huge. I wouldn’t recommend modeling your crush for this. That would probably make for some very awkward moments. Massive film canisters that you can walk into, large barrels seemingly suspended by ropes… almost anything works for this one.
3. Take anything controversial and put it in strange locations made out of some uncommon media. While a naked sculpture of Jesus may have all it takes, I assume this will work for anything else too.
4. Mimic and mock popular culture. Go for something that most people love to hate or hate to love or… Don’t worry about trying to impress anyone, stick with the casual, average, and mundane here. The fact that you’ve taken the mundane and turned it into art will be enough.
5. Take a something popular and make it unnaturally minuscule. Small enough to be almost invisible is good.
6. Do something absolutely nuts in a public way. While considered a version of installation art, this may also be seen in different ways by local police.
7. Take geometric shapes and string and wire and suspend it all in a white room with fishing line. Yay. Installation Art.
8. Fling paint at a canvas. Quote Jackson Pollack and use contrasting colors. Suddenly, it’s Abstract Expressionism maybe worth $50m
9. Take almost anything and put them it strange half morphed states as a painting. The funky moustache and the really long name of “Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dalí Domènech Marquis” are optional.
10. Paint anything like something else. Pet rocks, painted saw blades, and painted animals rank pretty high. Just take a picture after you finish.
