Keena on Halloween

Keena on Halloween

There are times in blogging where you must post something regardless if it has to do with your topic or not. My wife has an artistic side. She’s also a photographer here locally.
But her artistic side also comes out during Halloween. Last year, Elijah (our other cat) was a lion. This year, she dressed up Keena (cat shown in pic) as a witch. So I had to share this. I think this is my wifes way of saying “lets have kids we can do stuff like this to!”
My thought is that cats are more fun to torture in this way. …read more

Creativity in Programming

Creativity in Programming

I thought this was a great little idea for a program. It helps me and it was priced just about right. It’s more than paid for itself already with just the time saved. This is my example of finding a creative way to do something that I mentioned in a previous post.
Perfect Macro Recorder
There are certain things I do everyday. Within certain things I write and do, there are little repetitive tasks that need done every time I do them. I’ll give you an example.
Each week I put together a series of slides for our church for the screen projection …read more

Halloween Google Doodles – A history

Halloween Google Doodles – A history

You may have noticed that every now and then that Google changes it’s logo. For instance, today is Halloween and the logo looks like this. Now this is one of the things I like about Google. They seem to be one of those companies that embraces change and is willing to have a little fun, even at their own expense. (Not to mention that they must love bloggers.)
Well, I was curious, so I went digging around in the burial ground that is past logos, and more specifically, Halloween logos. so here is a brief history of the Halloween Google …read more

Ansel Adams – Moonrise

Ansel Adams – Moonrise

On this day in History, Ansel Adams took one of his more famous images, “Moonrise”. According to Wikipedia, this image was taken in 1941.

“American photographer Ansel Adams takes a picture of a moonrise over the town of Hernandez, New Mexico that would become one of the most famous images in the history of photography. “

I thought this was an appropriate image for Halloween, as it was one of Ansel Adams darker photographs and captures the mood usually associated with Halloween.

Style Study- Interactive Project

Style Study- Interactive Project

There are a lot of styles of art. I can think of realist, abstract, surreal styles and artists just off the top of my head, but that only scratches the surface. So I wanted to put this out to you to do a quick rendition of this picture in any style you prefer, your own style, or just a different perspective of this image.
I also uploaded a larger image that you can download by clicking the image.
It’s not the best picture, but it’s a real image of some books I was using in a study this week …read more

A brighter morning – An hour later.

A brighter morning – An hour later.

I have to admit I liked getting an extra hour of sleep last night. Eastern Standard time began again here in Ohio at 2am last night. I probably would have gotten more sleep, but I am just strange enough to stay up for the time travel feeling of watching the clock on my computer change from 1:59 am to 1:00 am.
I like it better than new years. At least it’s different. New Years is just the odometer clicking forward, not backwards. I guess I would get a kick out of airplane travel too and …read more

Boogle – Art Inspired Google?

Boogle – Art Inspired Google?

I recently ran across Boogle. Which looks like Google’s search but also has a random quote and random artwork displayed when you open up the page. I have no idea who owns www.boogle.com but when you are researching a particular image for your own artwork, Boogle may just give you the inspiring quote you need to get you started. Anyway, besides having any other functionality, I don’t think there is any so, enjoy.

It’s not delusions of grandeur.

It’s not delusions of grandeur.

Often we are led to think that art is something that can be defined on paper, canvas, sculpture or digital images. Pens, paint brushes, pencils and paint are only tools that lead us to the final realization of a vision we grasped maybe even long ago. Subsequently artists are generally defined by those things as well, not by themselves but by those who admire and critique their work. We are more than that though. We, artists rule the world!
It’s not delusions of grandeur. We are conceptual engineers, design fabricators, (and for the sake of throwing …read more

Our First Artist Submission – Brian Duey

Our First Artist Submission – Brian Duey

I have to admit that this caught me by surprise. I didn’t expect a submission so soon, but this really phenomenal stuff. Brian Duey from dueysdrawings sent me this. According to his blog Duey says:
“I have been working on this drawing for about the last 2 months. I have tons and tons of hours into it, probably 60 overall. It’s a drawing of a shattered Jack Daniels bottle. The drawing is 14″x20″. Hope you like it.”
Brian, I definitely do like it. That is an amazing piece. I also like where your name is on the label. Thanks for the submission. …read more

Painting with Pastels

Painting with Pastels

Being someone who dabbled in Airbrushing, Inkwash, and Acrylics in his younger years, I’ve discovered that some of the concepts apply to what I call “Painting with Pastels”.
With Airbrushing, you get used to having to mask off everything that you don’t want painted.
With Inkwash, you begin to understand the actual value of the color is dependant on how much ink you use.
Acrylics are vibrant by themselves and must be toned down for some applications even.

The concept of “Painting with Pastels” is really a take of working with inkwash. You can build backgrounds very easily with soft pastels …read more
