Celtic Music and Art
I tend to like to listen to music when I work on about anything. This includes doing any kind of art. I recently was pointed in the direction of a certain podcast that is usually released about every two weeks. It is entitled simply “The Celtic Music Podcast“.
While listening to Celtic music is fun and reminds me of those times at the Renaissance Festival this last fall, there is some incredible artwork that is also represented by the Celtic culture. An obvious example is the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript of the four Gospels. Seen in this image from Wikipedia, is the preface for the book of John, characterized as an eagle in the upper right which was John’s evangelist symbol.
While the monks involved are debated as to who actually took part and completed the work on the Book of Kells, it is clear that significant work and detail were used in the renderings. Intense detail is also shown in the book of Kells through elaborate embellishments to the writing itself.
