New Inspration/Old Canvas – Part II
I tend to be a purist when I buy paint. I will only usually buy black, white, red, yellow and blue. If I need green, I make it. So in this case this probably comes out to be a vibrancy that I didn’t really expect.
I have to admit there was a nervousness right before I squeezed that first bottle of black paint onto the canvas. It took me about four times to get up the courage, then I thought “Hey you really can’t mess this up!” and I went for it.
The inspiration is fall colors, though I decided not to use red here due to the orange field behind. The blue was more of a feel of impending cold of winter with the white as a touch of frost.
I didn’t use any other secondary colors other than the orange because the vibrancy of the orange really seemed to capture the season’s vibrancy.
This is my first attempt at abstract expressionism, but after this, I am bound to do it again. In short, it was fun!

The title will be assigned when it’s dry by the way. I never like to name something till it’s dry and is on display somewhere.
I like it! This is absolutely my favorite season of the year. I like this piece as a representation of it. Well done! How fun. Makes me want to go out and experiment with a blank canvas!
I find it so hard to use really bright colors…it’s just not me. I like what you painted very much, but if I had done it, I’d have flooded the whole thing with a wash of raw sienna and probably ruined it!
Good thing it’s yours
Thanks, I think I will only do this type of art when I need a break though, it’s too fun to do all the time… and could become addicting. I did add one small thing to the finished painting. I used a clear acrylic gloss coat over it and that really set it off.
[...] So here it is. I’ve decided to sell my first original painting on ebay. “Fall Colors” from the Old Canvas/New inspiration posts is now for sale here on ebay. [...]
