Critique vs. Compliments – Quieting the voices.

Old PhoneI don’t take compliments very well. I think it’s the fact that I’m a perfectionist. If someone tells me that they like something I’ve painted, I blow it off and point out all the flaws. Maybe I just need to learn to shut my mouth and not say anything.

Granted, if someone critiques my work and says that they hate it… I’d defend it tooth and nail and ultimately decide I don’t care what they think.

(Okay I need to turn of the phone… 3 phone calls since I started this entry)

As artists, we can get really picky about what we do, how we do it, and even why. It may be time to turn of these ringers too. The critiques, our inner voices, (the phone) can be destructive to our creativeness. They rob us of our ability to focus effectively on what we are trying to accomplish.

Those who can, do. Those who can’t become critics. Man is not perfect. Neither are his creations. Nothing wrong with a little humility. :)
