Magical Dust cures Artist Block
Past projects, photographs and archives (and all dusty stuff) can really come in handy for developing new ideas and dealing with that Artist Block. Artist Block is like Writers block, but for artists…
I get it quite often. Though writers block is fairly easy for me to conquer, there is something about a new sheet of blank paper or canvas that can paralyze me. I’d almost rather splash a little paint on all my work right before I start so that I’m working with something that can’t be “messed up”.
Photographs
I took this picture this last summer went I went to the zoo with my family. It probably ranks up there with one of the top ten photographs I’ve ever taken. Honestly I forgot about it till this morning when I actually did experience a little writers/artists block. (yeah, both at the same time is a creative nightmare – so I went to play some Xbox in the meantime then got tired of that and started looking through old pictures on my computer)
Books
Other things that have helped me in the past are just picking up an old book and reading it. Usually one of my favorites… Stephen Lawhead, C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, Rowling. Can you tell I like fantasy? This usually helps quite a bit. The whole process of reading puts new images and thoughts in my head.
FreeDraw
Basically freedraw is me scribbling in an old sketchbook like a little kid. I don’t worry about lines, or the point of what I am drawing, I just put the pencil, or charcoal on the paper and let it do it’s thing. I do the same thing with my writing over at decloned. This is probably one of the most helpful things I do for both writing and my artwork. Sometimes I think I get confused and my free drawing helps me write, or my writing helps me draw. It’s kind of interchangeable that way.
Kitties

This speaks for itself. If two cuddly cats don’t inspire you, nothing will. This is their interpretation of the tigers above.

LOL, clicking on the image of me, takes you to the Tigers image… not intentially, but I like it.
