Since we are traveling down to Kentucky to see family, I thought I’d post a live webcam of our Kitties and their normal hangout when we aren’t home. I am partial to glass artists. They can take something that is so solid and so lasting, melt it down into molten lava-like substances and fashion it into something beautiful. Dale Chihuly is the name that most people think of when they hear of glass art. Lately for me, it’s been Josh Simpson.

Okay, Here goes nothing! I have been thinking about how to celebrate Christmas here on Artist Hideout. I couldn’t think of anything I could give so I figured out an idea on something I could make for everyone. The typical artists response for the week of Christmas.

This is the first of my mood wallpapers. I guess this is how I feel today. Slightly pensive that the storm of my recent health problems has subsided. It could rain or the sun could come shining through at any moment. Hopefully, the latter is true.

Maybe I am generalizing here. Maybe it’s all in my head. But I think this is true. Not because we intend to do damage to ourselves or because we think we deserve some kind of penance. I think mainly it’s because we think about other things we are doing or working on and spend too little time just allowing our bodies to tell us what they need. Every little project can become the focal point of our lives.

I think it’s time to relax. I bought a new mp3 player today and decided that I am going to take a few more breaks here and there. Between working at the church, blogging and just the everyday stuff, life has been getting a little hectic.
So today I sat down with my guitar and finished a little song I had been working on. It’s a Christmas song. I thought I’d share it here. So pardon the fact that I’m off key here and there, and rather just listen to the message.

I did this back when I was in High school and fascinated with reggae music and airbrush art. (the two mixed here with area 51 I guess).
I have my parents to thank for a lot of my interest in art. One year for Christmas, my gift was an 11 gallon air compressor, 50ft of air hose and a Paasche VL Airbrush.
We set the tank up in the basement, ran the air hose up to my art desk in my room and I breathed paint over the next year or so having fun with working with airbrush.

From my archives of stuff I’ve done over the years comes the oil painting “Hands in Time”.
I think this started just from wanting to do something that was full of color so I painted the background of a red fading upward to a light green at the top.
Then I used my hands to create the hand print templates which I then subsequently made 3 dimensional with yet more colorful paint.

Using some tips and tricks from Brian Duey, from his website (who I consider to be a master at the portrait) I was able to come up with this portrait. I am not at all satisfied with it. I guess it is a good start. I’d be able to pick the girl from a lineup if she ever does something wrong based on this at least. I am not trying to create mug shots.
I never sprayed fixative on this either so it’s a little smudged from letting it sit in my sketchbook for about a month while I worked up …read more

First off, I must tell a little back story. I once had lug nuts stolen off the front driver side wheel. While doing 65 mph (more like 70mph) on the outer belt of Columbus, OH during rush hour, my wheel almost fell off. It sheared several lugs and I managed to get it off the outer belt with a wobbly wheel and 2 remaining lugs holding the wheel on.
Luckily, (or God’s providence) there happened to be a Firestone store right off the exit where this happened. I limped it in. They fixed the problem and …read more
