I’m a Considerate Inventor

I usually don’t do these things, but I really liked this personality test. It was probably the most accurate one I’ve ever taken. I think you may find it interesting as well. I found it via one of my friends blogs that he just started. Thanks Steven!
Besides, the output looks a little bit like an abstract painting.

Digital Scrapbooking and OpenOffice 2.1

Digital Scrapbooking and OpenOffice 2.1

With the recent release of OpenOffice 2.1 which you can download here. I’ve been thinking about how we can use the draw program included as a great tool for doing some digital scrapbooking. So I decided to show off a few of the capabilities of the program with an image.
This was put together using OpenOffice 2.1 Draw in a matter of just a few minutes. I used images from this article.
The toughest part of this was adding the washout effect for the background image of the flowers on the belly button. I used two …read more

Selling Art – That Awkward Guilt Complex and Random Thoughts

Selling Art – That Awkward Guilt Complex and Random Thoughts

Since the very first painting I ever sold, I’ve had a strange type of guilt complex about selling something that I enjoyed doing. At first it was cool and I just went with it, but then after about a week I was remembering how much fun that particular piece of art was to do and then thought about how much I sold it for. It didn’t seem to add up. Isn’t work supposed to be something you toil over? Something you hate? Something that you do just for the money?
I’ve never tried to sell my work. That may be part …read more

My love affair with a good pen (and 10 ways to tell if you are having one too)

My love affair with a good pen (and 10 ways to tell if you are having one too)

I like my pens. Well, certain ones: Pilot v5, uni-ball vision elite, and a few others on occasion. I cringe when I go into the bank and they hand me one of those white things with a stubby little ball point on it. It’s like I suddenly can’t write my name or something. I just stare at the pen and start searching my pants pockets, my coat pockets and looking out the bank window longingly at the car where I know I have a uni-ball in the side door compartment (just in case).
Anymore, I …read more

Art Takes Deadly Turn

Art Takes Deadly Turn

I was reminded once again today that art takes many turns. Sometimes people create things for either protection or to harm others.
The exhibit “The Art of the Shiv” shows different Shivs created by inmates from everyday materials. This image is an unbreakable comb with razor blades inserted to make a knife akin to a butcher knife.
People create things for many reasons and not all of these reasons are good reasons that people enjoy.
I was amazed that such things could be created by everyday things and it does make you look at ordinary things in new ways.

Project Idea in the making.

Project Idea in the making.

There is a project that I have been wanting to try for a long time, but have yet been able to work it out. The idea has been floating for years in my head. But as it’s there, I figure I should at least spill it out and see what kinda of motivation I could get for actually starting it. Maybe some of you have some great ideas on making this work effectively.
The idea is this:
To take old maps and arrange pieces of them in such a way as to create a large portrait out of them …read more

Good Day!

Good Day!

I am quite happy today. I finally received my laptop back from Dell. Literally while I was on the phone with them and was getting the tracking number, DHL knocked at my door.
Maybe I can begin posting a little more now since I have been tied down so much lately to the desktop.
Or at least from that coffee shop I mentioned in the last post.
