What I want for Christmas – Part I

What I want for Christmas – Part I

It is one of those questions that I dread being asked each year. I love my wife, my cats, my family, my church family, my job. Overall, I am just very happy. So what could I possibly want?
Usually it’s just those things I can’t yet afford. Here’s number 1 on my list.

Tablet PC – I see this as the ultimate digital art tool. I had a pocket pc before, and I loved the input method of just writing on the screen. I am eager to try out a tablet pc with Paint Shop …read more

Candles and Fun Gifts

Candles and Fun Gifts

A fun, cheap and personal Christmas gift idea, probably more on the crafts side than the arts side here.
In addition to blogging here at b5media I am also an associate pastor here in Newark, OH. Home of the worlds largest basket building and the Heisy Glass Museum, as well as the site of the prehistoric Indian mounds.
So anyway, back on topic… We are doing a special project with the youth group this coming Sunday. We have decided to make gifts for some of the older folks in our church on Sunday. The gift? Candles.

Bonsai Furniture

Bonsai Furniture

I thought this was a cool idea. My wife is a bit of a tree hugger. Okay, I admit it.. I am too. (but it’s all her fault).

So her first reaction was “You mean they grow these trees just to cut them down? That’s horrible.”
“Yeah” says I “you know like in the Eragon books how the elves sing the trees into shapes?”
“oh yeah, well I guess it’s not so bad then”

So check out their site. I’m still waiting on the La-Z-boy version of this.

M.C. Escher – Rendering the impossible

M.C. Escher – Rendering the impossible

I am an Escher fan. I love his work. I think what intrigues me most is the way he looked at the world. He literally got out of the box and started something new with his art. I recently ran across a bunch of videos on Youtube that use the concepts and designs of M.C. Escher. Here’s one below that I liked:

By the way, awesome video! Thank you for sharing it with us all.

innerTee – Waiting on Approval.

innerTee – Waiting on Approval.

I’ve been keeping an eye on innerTee lately. This looks to be a great little place where Artists can upload their work and from what I understand, anyone in the community could select that design and put it on a shirt they purchase. Though innerTee has been around the web since early 2006, this is a new service from them.
This allows Artists to sell individual designs for people to wear.
Nice idea! I look forward to uploading a few designs myself. hmmm… I may see a whole line coming! LOL

Okay, I admit it.

Okay, I admit it.

I recently watched a Weird Al Video collection. Lately I have been able to get some of those tunes out of my head. But this morning as the really dumb song started flitting through my head, a thought occurred to me. It was the song “Dare to be Stupid”
Has there ever been an art project that you wanted to do that you shyed away from because you were afraid that someone else would have though it too childish, dumb or just plain silly?

EmptyEasel.com: Submission to the Uncontest.

EmptyEasel.com: Submission to the Uncontest.

Dan over at www.EmptyEasel.com submitted this design. I really like this one. It’s clean and really easy to read. He even kept some of the elements from my earlier submission. I like the little byline there too, which I hadn’t thought of. It definitely brings to the blog a branding element that I haven’t really explored to the fullest. I also really liked his recent post on Are some art techniques cheating?
Besides, my earlier submission was “too gay” according to my wife. She said it was the periwinkle text. So as she is the one I have to live …read more

Logo design #1 and the “uncontest”

Logo design #1 and the “uncontest”

Okay here is the deal…
over at b5media, a few (good) changes are happening.

new templates
new ad systems
and just a better and cleaner/smoother interface all round.

Well, the arts and crafts area is slated to be re-templated soon. My current logo doesn’t fit the specs and I am already growing tired of it anyway.
So, I have decided to reinvent it.
I’m going to throw out a few concepts and you can just tell me what you think. Be honest, and if you have a better design idea feel free to submit it. I’d run it as a contest, …read more
