Strange Orange Package

Strange Orange Package

First of all I’d like to say thanks to G & S Weaver!
Today my mail lady freaked me out. Suddenly I hear her banging on the door, and look out the window to see her leaving a package on my porch.
I wasn’t expecting anything and so quickly scanned the bedroom for a clean shirt to throw on so I could reach out and grab the package. After several minutes of looking at the front of the box, we decided that it was indeed meant for us. So we opened it.
Here is what was inside:

Drawing Animals: Fur in the Paint

Drawing Animals: Fur in the Paint

I’ve been following the blog “Fur In the Paint” for the last month and am truly astounded at the work represented. Today was posted this which shows a finished work that I think is pretty amazing.

Beginning Blender: Oh, My Blue Heart

Beginning Blender: Oh, My Blue Heart

So yesterday I began trying out the open-source animation tool, Blender. I played around with blender for a few hours and came to the conclusion that there are probably some good blogs and sites about Blender. In fact they are hard to miss when they are ranked number one on blogtopsites for the art section.
BlenderNation is who I turned to. They must be doing something right if they are ranked number one.
I ran across a tutorial that looked to be just my speed.

Beginning Blender: More than a kitchen appliance.

Beginning Blender: More than a kitchen appliance.

I think I wrote this on my all things new post but I’ve decided to start learning to do digital animation using the freely available (open source) tool, Blender.
Now looking at Blender for someone like me is daunting to say the least. I can usually download a tool, play with it a little and have a general clue as to what I am doing. I never took a formal computer class in my life but somehow ended up being the guy that everyone comes to for computer questions. So I figured, hey why not? Let’s give …read more

The art of the reproduction

The art of the reproduction

Beginning artists have always been fascinated by painting the works of a great artist. There was a time at which I would have considered this a scam and a blight in the face of the art world. To take a well-known famous painting of superior quality and transpose it by a two-bit artist seems absurd and degrading. I have began to look at this in a new light though. Several years ago I bought a painting via ebay. One that I liked not because it was supposedly a reproduction or that it was a landscape. …read more

Playing with Fire and Fractals

Playing with Fire and Fractals

This evening I was reading through some of the feeds in my feedreader and came across Cyndi’s post about fractals. Prompted by the need to try out a new art program, I downloaded Apophysis and set out to try my hand at creating something, anything, whatever…
In about 15 minutes I had a fractal art image… not the greatest, but I liked it. I still don’t know much about the program as I just hit random buttons which is how I work most of the time.
Here is my fractal that I came up with. I did a …read more

Skulls, bones and other art

Skulls, bones and other art

I recently received an email from a Mr. Dark who likes to draw bones and skulls. Besides my initial reaction of “hey, this is really good!” was the morbid factor which encompassed with the anatomical renderings of a Mr. Dark led me to the final conclusion of “hey, this is really good!”

Rendering the dead has long been a part of traditional art. Artists were employed by early doctors and scientists to make models, drawings and paintings of various skin diseases, maladies, and sicknesses as well as the eventual death of many of these patients, with autopsy drawings when …read more

My Favorite Art Tool

My Favorite Art Tool

Hsien over at Play Library posed a question today on “what is your favorite craft tool?” I would probably say that mine is my camera. Looking through old images often inspires me to create.
Hit up Hsien and let her know what you guys think too.

Storm Daisies: Details

Storm Daisies: Details

NHyde of Finders Keepers Art Project asked to see a detail of the texture of the Storm Daisies which I must admit in my haste to finally get it online, I failed to do. Thanks for the reminder and here are some nice little detail shots I grabbed. This gives you a better idea of how vibrant this turned out.

Storm Daisies

Storm Daisies

It’s finally dried! I’ve entitled this “Storm Daisies”. I was a little frustrated at first because the green stems kinda took over as the storm approached, but the more I look at this now, the more I like it. A night storm is overwhelming these poor daisies. This is my first painting using this technique and I am quite pleased with the results. I like the vividness of the piece. I am going to make this the first painting I try to sell via the blog.
(also, I enhanced the white using a glow paint as well to make this luminescent)

Storm …read more
