I would like to say I keep a little sketchbook handy but its more often than not a little piece of paper. I have tried to show how this works on my blog, where I have been discussing where I get ideas or start points for a painting

how's that snowball coming along? Are you both going by the name Britney now too?

sorry, bad joke, but oh well.

That little sketchbook and black pen sounds really familiar, but mine usually gets filled up with a conglomeration of weird things. Church stuff, writing, drawings... in short they tend to look a lot like me.

Is that art? Frightening if it is.

We should chat sometime here soon Ryan.

When I'm in a slump, I get simple and carry only a small sketchbook and a black art pen. I'll just sketch ANY object I see around me. I won't spend more than 10 mins on a sketch and the ink builds my confidence and keeps my line deliberate. This helps keep the eye sharp and also builds a knowledge of how to draw certain objects. It gets me thru the dry time and keeps me productive.

Also, I have a large corkboard where I hang small sketches, color ideas, photos, and anything else inspiring. When I'm uninspired, I'll study at the board and start in a new direction.

As far as Dave Ramsey goes, My wife and I have shaved our heads and drank the kool-aid.
