I went to Italy with the veteran's group (the very elite 10th Mountain Division) and took some photos with me as a way of introduction to the other veterans and their families. My dad was a Private First Class, and in the photo from Venice, with 2 other buddies, they all wear the one stripe, except I noticed my dad's was not there. I knew he had his rank the whole time, so I assumed that his Ike Jacket uniform had probably been lost in the system, and he must have been wearing a borrowed or re-issued one. So, we cloned one stripe from his buddy! The reception I had from the Italians, BTW, a very moving experience. Genuine love and gratitude from every generation, old and young. They treated the 10th Mountain men like absolute rock stars - it gives you goose bumps to think of it, and I was unexpectedly blown away by it. Also, Bill, which one is your granddad?

My wife & I did the same thing last year with my late dad’s WW II photo.
