Taking Questions for Josh Simpson Interview

Taking Questions for Josh Simpson Interview

This Friday, I have the opportunity to interview Josh Simpson who I previously wrote about here on Artist Hideout. Josh is an internationally acclaimed glass artist who is perhaps best known for his megaplanets.
So what do you ask when you get the opportunity to interview one of your favorite Artists?
I have a few questions, but I would like to know what you would ask Josh. Here’s a few details about Josh that I posted on the internal forums of www.b5media.com

If you get a chance to check out some of his work in the gallery of his site, I would love …read more

Help Save a Historic House from Destruction – 3 days left

Help Save a Historic House from Destruction – 3 days left

There is a house here locally by the name of the Captain Scott House. It’s an amazing house. I’ve always been very impressed with the architecture and the beauty of this amazing house. Now the house is facing destruction if enough money is not raised to move it. Visit www.captainscotthouse.org on how you can help save this historic monument.

The wide appeal of the project has mainly to do with the home itself, said Herring. “I am constantly meeting people who say ‘I’ve always loved that house!’” Last week, a family who wishes to remain anonymous stepped forward with a $10,000 …read more

The other day I was able to take part in the b5media podcast with some of the other b5 crew. I think I sounded a little out of it. I was trying to hear through the static though. Ah the fun of podcasting over Skype.

Check it out on the main b5media blog.

Talk 02 – Art is a “Real” Job

Talk 02 – Art is a “Real” Job

While I may not have the space to do much large artwork, there is a definite difference in the mood of my surroundings when I sit down to paint or draw. I’ll put the cats in the bedroom or bathroom, either put in earplugs or turn on music and tell Becca to let me be for awhile.
In many ways, when I sit down for art, I wear blinders. It’s clear that I am working. Though it’s work I enjoy. I scarce can even call it work.
Check out the video below via Google Video of Jamie …read more

Talk 01 – Art is a “Real Job”

You do art for a living?
There is a misconception that artists are not really “working” in our culture. I am not sure why this is other than the fact that art has been taken for granted for so long and some have become oblivious to the nature of the work that we do.
Bloggers face the same thing on occasion.
So how is our job of an artist represented to our friends and family?

The Faith of an Artist, A Response to Casey Klahn

The Faith of an Artist, A Response to Casey Klahn

As today is Sunday, my thoughts usually turn to faith each Sunday. I recently read a post by Casey Klahn over at “The Colorist” about the faith of Vincent Van Gogh.
Perhaps I am attracted to Casey’s art because we share the same educational background. We both have our BA in Biblical Theology and are influenced by the work of Vincent Van Gogh in our styles to some degree. (Him probably much more than I).
Casey mentioned this below and I quite agree with this statement.

But I don’t know how, without bald redaction, one can study the …read more

Link Love: March 9th, 2007

This is probably a take off of Darren’s Speedlinking over at www.Problogger.net, but for the sake of feeling happy today because of the nice weather, I’ll call it “Link Love” (which is not in reference to anything below either).

I couldn’t pass up the opportunity when I was checking out some recent blog search sites and found another b5 blogger had written about this. I figured with my earlier post today on Georgia O’Keefe, I had better share this. Check out the post on The DC Traveler, there is a whole museum dedicated to women in the arts.

Garden Fountains?

Garden Fountains?

My wife has really been getting into blogging lately. She even writing over at Mother Earth’s Garden, another b5 blog. I have been thinking about ways that I could join her in the garden with some kind of art project. Part of the problem is that we don’t really have the space for a garden (she is going to be doing a lot of her gardening over at my parents house). So I have been thinking about what I could do to help solve this little dilemma and provide a spot for some little flowers throughout …read more

Coping with the death of a comic superhero.

Coping with the death of a comic superhero.

I’ve never been a comic collector or reader, At least not of the Marvel or DC comics. But it fascinates me that such a long-running illustrated hero such as Captain America is being mourned so widely.

The latest edition will show the superhero dying on the steps of a courthouse in New York, after he was shot by a sniper.
Captain America first appeared nine months before the Pearl Harbor bombings, punching Hitler on the cover of the comic’s first issue.

I would hate to put political feelings into this sudden and unexpected death of such a famously illustrated figure, but …read more

A look at the world of O’Keefe

A look at the world of O’Keefe

Born to humble dairy farmers, Georgia O’Keefe is famous for her sexualized flower portraits and her view of the western culture of America.
Her marriage to photographer Alfred Stieglitz was the element that catapulted her to widespread recognition as a serious artist. Though a very exceptional artist, she did represent a unique artistic genre to the New York art scene in the early throughout the early 1900’s.

Soon after she moved to New York, she began working primarily in oil, which represented a shift away from her having worked mainly in watercolor in the 1910s, and by the mid-1920s, she began making …read more
