Abstract Cubism in Progress – Masked off.

0715071246

I’ve been getting into Picasso’s work a lot more lately, and decided that I need to make it my own and work with the cubic form just a little more.

So, starting off this painting is a whole lot of masking tape.

I have cuts on the inside of my hand where I was pulling the tape off the roll and it would spin.

Part of this is that I wanted to mimic glass breaking out toward the viewer.

This is more planning than I usually put into a work, but I seem to already see the finished product in my head.

One final question: Can you mix acrylic and charcoal?

Cool. I went to Picasso’s Ceramics exhibit a couple weeks ago at the Belagio – I didn’t realize that he had done so much work in that medium.

I never really liked Picasso till I saw some of his earlier work and realized how much he grew as an artist. I didn’t know he was that into ceramic work either. I’ll have to check into it. Are you going to post some images of that exhibit?

No photography was allowed. Does a scan or two from the program fall under fair use?

Very cool project, and way to get “into” Picasso.
Try a test canvas for charcoal and acrylic. I have seen it done. I would lay down a charcoal sketch, then use the acrylic in a transparent layer (water added). You could fix the charcoal with a spray fixative, too.
