Lessons Learned: Masking

0716071547

Okay, so I learned a lesson with Acrylics and Masking tape on my cubic abstract project.

They don’t work well together.

Maybe if I had rolled paint onto the canvas this would have worked, but I used a brush.

The paint migrated underneath the tape causing weird runs.

Not really what I was intending here.

The funny thing about a technique that doesn’t work is well, now you know.

Next time “burnish” your tape’s edge with your fingernail. That tends to seal it tighter to the surface you are masking OR another trick that takes longer but definitely works is: apply your tape, burnish it, paint the over it edges with the color that’s underneath and when that’s dry, apply the paint color you want to show. That way if any paint sneaks under the tape’s edge, it’s the same color as the under paint. I know…a lot of extra work so it seems but it’s pretty fool-proof.

It might have helped to use a higher tack tape too. ;)
