JD Hillberry: Monochromatic Renderings
J.D. Hillberry submitted some of his renderings to me last week. These are pretty impressive to say the least, but to get a fuller picture of the scope of his work, check out www.jdhillberry.com
J.D. also has quite a few tutorials on his site on How to Draw that I’d highly recommend.
Artist’s Statement:
“Like most artists, I have a need to communicate pictorially rather than with words. Although I try to push the limits of realism in a black and white medium, simply imitating reality isn’t my primary goal. I use the technical skills I have developed to tell a story or evoke an emotion. I feel I’ve successfully communicated with someone when they identify with the essence of a particular piece, and it brings about new thoughts or feelings.”

Thanks so much for posting some of my work here William. I just wanted to mention that everything shown in these images is drawn – including all tape and backgrounds. I always mention this because the illusion is quite convincing, even when seen in real life. At my art shows I stand next to these pieces and inform everyone that everything they are seeing is one flat piece of white paper. If I don’t I here people leaving my booth saying, “I wonder why he used masking tape to mount those drawings?”
Thanks again William. I am really enjoying your site here.
