Artist Blog or Blogger Artist?
Okay, so you are an artist and you have a blog. Great.
I recently read an article that references blogs as a great way to maximize the exposure of your artwork. While this is true, there are several very different ideologies about art blogs that must be considered before you embark on your own little foray into the art blogging world.
Artist Blog - This type of blog is the most prevalent. This is artists who blog about their own artwork, show it on their blog and rarely talk about anything else. These are great blogs and there are a lot of really amazing Artist Blogs out there. The income from a blog like this is usually derived mainly from the sales of artwork. Ads usually are not run on a site like this because they compete for the attention of the viewer.
Blogger Artist - This type of blog primarily talks about art, it’s influences, and general art mumbo jumbo. The blogger only needs to be a fair artist to really make a blog like this work because they can get away with just talking about art most of the time. Occasionally they are called on to actually show some skill and create something. Blogs like this usually are not out to sell anything in particular, but rather inform and teach rather than show and sell. Because of this, ads are usually run for the sake of having the blog "earn it’s keep" so to speak.
There’s nothing particularly bad about either of these on their own. But either can be strengthened with some takeaways from the other.
An Artist Blog would benefit greatly from occasionally sharing more that just their own stuff and a Blogger Artist blog would benefit from actually showing that they are actually proficient enough to pick up a paint brush and paint something from time to time.

I think I must be an Art Blogger Artist…or is there such a thing?! I do blog mostly about my art, but also about life in general, other artists, animals, etc. I like the personal side of artist’s lives so I gravitate toward other blogger’s who do the same.

I guess I’m a combination of both. When trying to come up with an outline for my new website, I first decided on a blog format, so that I can add articles that I like, along with my own articles and updates.
Then I got to thinking…what do people want to see as soon as they enter an art site? Is it art, or articles? I decided to show both and link to my galleries from there.

I’m probably more of the first kind as I do not know enough to be the second kind :D I have 3 art blogs though. One for the experiments and learning, one to put the finished work on display and the 3rd to share useful art links with people with similar interests.
Taking you up on your offer of adding to the blogroll, I’ve put the links below
Maya - portfolio blog - http://ujwala.wordpress.com
draw the line - experiments and learning - http://drawtheline.wordpress.com
Blog Schmlog - links to art resources - http://blogschmlog.blogspot.com

I guess I’m one of those blogger artists you talked about. The description I have for my blogspot is “A place I share some stuff, as you do, as he does”, I don’t want my readers think that I’m such a conceited guy who talks about nothing but himself or his works and that I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT ART or something — that’s just tacky ant tactless. I tried to make my posts as relevant as possible, but having something totally distracting or funny from time to time does no harms. ;)

I think I’d rather show my art than talk about it (or talk about other people’s). The strange thing is I have a ton of stuff on my hard drive from the past 10 years and i never share any of it with others. Perhaps I should start.

I am a Art Blogger Artist, an art teacher that does art shows and sells my art sometimes, I have a blog site its about a little of everything and its connection to art and creating art. This blog thing is new to me a friend suggested to me as a way to stay more connected to artist. I have this burring question, “what do artist think about coming into schools showing and teaching art to children?” http://artistineducation.blogsome.com/

I’ve only run a few art-related blogs, though I really do enjoy reading them very much. Any of the ones I ever ran really centered around my own art and art techniques though. Now I’m just too busy, so I really only stick around my DeviantArt gallery and update the journal on there. Which isn’t really a blog but it’s the closest art-related blog I have!
I enjoyed talking about my technique and tutorial type topics on my blogs.
