Halloween Google Doodles – A history

Halloween Google Doodles – A history

You may have noticed that every now and then that Google changes it’s logo. For instance, today is Halloween and the logo looks like this. Now this is one of the things I like about Google. They seem to be one of those companies that embraces change and is willing to have a little fun, even at their own expense. (Not to mention that they must love bloggers.)
Well, I was curious, so I went digging around in the burial ground that is past logos, and more specifically, Halloween logos. so here is a brief history of the Halloween Google …read more

Ansel Adams – Moonrise

Ansel Adams – Moonrise

On this day in History, Ansel Adams took one of his more famous images, “Moonrise”. According to Wikipedia, this image was taken in 1941.

“American photographer Ansel Adams takes a picture of a moonrise over the town of Hernandez, New Mexico that would become one of the most famous images in the history of photography. “

I thought this was an appropriate image for Halloween, as it was one of Ansel Adams darker photographs and captures the mood usually associated with Halloween.

The Newark Earthworks is a series of mounds built by the Hopewell Indians about 2000 years ago. It’s strange to walk around something that was …read more

Celtic Music and Art

I tend to like to listen to music when I work on about anything. This includes doing any kind of art. I recently was pointed in the direction of a certain podcast that is usually released about every two weeks. It is entitled simply “The Celtic Music Podcast“.
While listening to Celtic music is fun and reminds me of those times at the Renaissance Festival this last fall, there is some incredible artwork that is also represented by the Celtic culture. An obvious example is the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript of the four Gospels. …read more

Van Gogh Mania.

Van Gogh Mania.

Van Gogh did not live in the secret place of the world where he saw jet engine turbulence as many of his paintings seem to indicate according to Paul Scrivens. This excerpt from an old copy of Art Journal, “Art, Madness, and Human Interaction” details that Van Gogh experienced a variety of mental disorders (namely bi-polar) that impacted his artwork.
It is also well-documented that Van Gogh demonstrated this through his paintings. This is seen most extraordinarily in his painting “The Stary Night” (Which I also included as a graphic for this post). Van Gogh had a turbulence of mind …read more
