When I first saw Ryan Petrow’s art, the first thing that I noticed were the lines, the quietly urban settings, and the colors which seem to elegantly express the personality of the scene as more than just a setting, but a world of people who desire something beyond themselves.
The watercolor painting here “South on Meridian” is one of Ryan’s more populated renderings, with few horizontal lines and many more verticals that characterize Ryan’s style. Laurence Stephen Lowry (1887-1976)
Born November 1, 1887 Lowry became famous for painting the urban settings in which he lived and much to his chagrin, worked.

Lowry retired from the Pall Mall Property Company in 1952. During his career he had risen to become chief cashier but he never stopped collecting rents. The firm had supported his development as an artist and he was allowed time off for exhibitions in addition to his normal holiday allowance. I have to admit that this caught me by surprise. I didn’t expect a submission so soon, but this really phenomenal stuff. Brian Duey from dueysdrawings sent me this. According to his blog Duey says:

Recently, I have began a journey to learn more about local artists right here in my hometown. It’s amazing to me how many there are when you look for them. Today I visited Tessa Warner who teaches Art Classes locally as well as sells her paintings. Before today, I didn’t know Tessa… I only knew that there was some kind of Art place in the old mall.
