Drums- Drawn

I might be getting the hang of drawing with this thing – maybe

First Impressions of the Wacom Intuos3.

First Impressions of the Wacom Intuos3.

ok, so I am writing this using my new tablet the first thing I notice is that it handles just bit differently than I imagined.  Getting character recognition to work correctly was fun.  I hear it is much easier in vista, but I am using XP – oh the joy!
Okay, back to typing.  The sketch at the left was created in about 30 seconds, so all is not lost.  Created in Paint Shop Pro.
I am going to have to play with a few programs to find what works for me though.  SmoothDraw3 seems to be great little program for …read more

Joyous Electric Art

Joyous Electric Art

Probably the most effective art tool in my arsenal is my music.
Today, it seems I’m in a particular mood.

Draw.
Then email an image of your creations to me.
We’ll put together a posted show based off of this music if you can handle it.
Warning: may cause epileptic attack or visions of Mario and Luigi dancing to a syncopated rhythm.
Oh, and if you are interested in who this is…

Backwoods Fest 2007
Jay Risner, pictured here with two of his sculpted vultures, took some time to talk with me today about
his sculptures at the Backwoods Fest in Thornville, OH.
Now craft shows/art markets are more than just a place to go to showcase your work, they also can serve as inspiration and help you innovate your own methods by checking out what other people are using that work for certain effects.
Even though we spoke only briefly, Jay was more than happy to talk about his work and share some great insights into the work he does.

If you had to try a new art form and had unlimited resources to do it, what would you try?

If you had to try a new art form and had unlimited resources to do it, what would you try?

Here’s what I would try (to do more of anyway).
Sculpting.
Sculpting is messy work.
There is a reason I shy away from sculpting.  It’s expensive, it’s really time consuming, it takes up a lot of space and well…. it’s messy.
Not that I wouldn’t do more if I had the resources, I think I would.  Or at least I like to think that I would.
But here’s why I would do it.  Sculptures seem to reach out into our three dimensional space and pull us bodily into the work.
So, what would you try?

Faith via SketchFu.

Faith via SketchFu.

I think I am going to be hooked on Sketchfu. I decided to actually try to create something on sketchfu and was pleasantly surprised as soon as I finally figured out how to make colors transparent using < and > So here is my first SketchFu drawing that I’d like to share.
You can see the process here
But here below is the finished product of a few minutes time. Keep in mind, I am using my mouse for this… until I get my tablet (which somehow accidently got posted to last month… must look into that).

Coming into your own as an artist/designer.

Coming into your own as an artist/designer.

I’ve been reading a new blog lately called www.coolest-furniture.com.
Today they featured the Marshmallow Sofa which I thought was pretty cool.
I am fairly intuitive when it comes to creating things and I enjoy the process of creating something that can be used.
But I am not sure if I have really “come into my own” so to speak yet.
A few days ago I posted on “25 Art Forms to try and Artists who already use them” and I don’t even think I’ve scratched the surface in the creation mediums and forms.
Lately, I’ve been feeling the urge to go more practical …read more

The view out my window….live.

I’ve been playing with a webcam lately and finally figured out how to stream video from it to the web. Eventually, I will probably do some art this way, but for now it’s pointed out the window which looks like I am in prison with the barbed wire around the water tower…lol.
The image to the left is a static screenshot, but click it to go to the live streaming webcam.
It’s hard to find freeware to do this that is…well, free. I hit about 100 different supposed freeware options before I finally found Yawcam which allowed me to do this.
So for …read more
