Philosophical Thoughts at Work

Philosophical Thoughts at Work

I used to be a photographer for Olan Mills. One day that I knew was going to be particularly slow, I took my laptop to work and began writing.
I think it was in that moment, I knew that I wanted to write about art as well as just create it.
Anyway, I just found the old pen drive that had these files on it, and I thought I’d share.

It is amazing how time does not stand still even for a moment. At the moment of the flash, time continues to roll on. A single millisecond frozen in time. No contextual reference …read more

My wife’s art. I

My wife’s art. I

Over the last month, we’ve began a process to go minimalist with our lives and clear out the extra crap from our little existence. Recently we got a storage facility and began carting everything off to there. Yesterday as we were packing up some stuff for this exercise, we ran across some of my wife’s old charcoal drawings. Her response was, “so you want to throw these up on Artist Hideout too?”

If you would like to submit some of your work to Artist Hideout and display it here, submit …read more

It’s funny what you find.

It’s funny what you find.

I was going through some old pictures tonight on a whim to find something from my past to work into a drawing and I ran across this. It’s an acrylic painting I did back during my senior year of High School and went to Ohio Capital Conference with.
This was also the first painting I ever sold:
$75
I know I did a horrible job stretching the canvas, but it still turned out pretty good for 17 years old. Hmmmm, 9 years ago.
A lot has changed in those last 9 years. I am about 85 pounds heavier for …read more

Photo Restoration as an Art

Photo Restoration as an Art

Though this was done completely digital in Paint Shop Pro, I thought I’d share it.
This is an image of my grandfather when he was in the second world war. There is some serious distortion of the image from folding over the years.

Using cloning techniques and some elements of art (face of the other guy, buttons, belt, uniform and trees) I was able to clear up the image significantly. I may do a little more work on this in the future though I am happy with it now.

Alien Rastafarian

Alien Rastafarian

I did this back when I was in High school and fascinated with reggae music and airbrush art. (the two mixed here with area 51 I guess).
I have my parents to thank for a lot of my interest in art. One year for Christmas, my gift was an 11 gallon air compressor, 50ft of air hose and a Paasche VL Airbrush.
We set the tank up in the basement, ran the air hose up to my art desk in my room and I breathed paint over the next year or so having fun with working with airbrush.
This is probably one of …read more

Hands in Time

Hands in Time

From my archives of stuff I’ve done over the years comes the oil painting “Hands in Time”.
I think this started just from wanting to do something that was full of color so I painted the background of a red fading upward to a light green at the top.
Then I used my hands to create the hand print templates which I then subsequently made 3 dimensional with yet more colorful paint.
