Zlatko Vasic: organic illustration

Zlatko Vasic: organic illustration

I opened up my inbox today to find attachments of the art of Zlatko Vasic (does anyone know a good online Swedish to English translator?), a Swedish artist.
There is an organic quality to his works that is anatomical, yet strangely surreal. Movement is present, but exists within a grotesque arena where flesh is peeled away to reveal a mass of muscle-like tissues and non-human elements.

One Hour Till the First BlogTalk Radio Show Here at Artist Hideout

I’ve looked forward to doing this show for awhile now. I think I emailed Josh Simpson’s studio back in October right after I had started Artist
Hideout. It’s been a little while getting things in place to do interviews like this, and I am thrilled to be able to talk with Josh Simpson today.
Below is a video that I tried to upload yesterday of a quickie review of www.MyArtPlot.com and it only was approved as of this morning. MtArtPlot is a social networking site for artists to show, review and sell their work. It’s quite nice and levels the playing field …read more

Daily Paintings from Justin Clayton

Daily Paintings from Justin Clayton

Justin’s wife emailed me this morning with this.

My husband, Justin Clayton, is an oil painter. A few of years ago he started painting on a daily basis just to get some practice in. They were small studies and usually unfinished. But, for the past year he has been painting almost daily and finishes each painting. He posts them on his website and puts them up for auction on ebay. He has sold almost every painting. It has been such a satisfying career move for him. He loves painting.
I’m submitting a picture of a painting he did last month.
Check out his …read more

June Dreams?

June Dreams?

Okay, I felt a little bad for Cyndi this last showcase. Her link got misplaced somewhere along the way. So I thought I’d highlight her blog, Layers Upon Layers and one of her showcase entry here too.
She completed the mixed media painting in December and makes great use of found elements in her style.
It’s called “Dreaming of June” and you can see it over at her blog. I really like this Cyndi, thank you for sharing this.

Cheryl Pass – Life, be still

Cheryl Pass – Life, be still

I count it as a great privilege to be in contact with so many very talented artists every day here on Artist Hideout. So first of all, thanks for helping build this great community.
Cheryl Pass submitted two of her pieces yesterday for inclusion in Artist Hideout. After reading some of her blog I wrote her and asked her to share some tips as well as some experiences with you here.

So I asked about the first experiences of her childhood she remembered of creating art.

…my mother was extremely strict and her favorite thing to do was tell me to …read more

Linda Blondheim: Impressionism is alive and well.

Linda Blondheim: Impressionism is alive and well.

Linda Blondheim recently sent me a painting that she did entitled “Town and Country Farm” (14×18 inches, oil on canvas)
My first look at it reminded me of impressionist artists. I half expected to see some ladies in the background with umbrellas…lol. My next thought was that it was a retouched photograph with a paintbrush effect. It’s not though.
This is indeed superb work by a very talented artist. Linda is a “plein air” artist. A very lively bunch who love to paint outside in whatever elements come their way. I am sure this proves …read more

A Dream Within a Dream: Lyndsey Grosjean

A Dream Within a Dream: Lyndsey Grosjean

Lyndsey Grosjean submits this original drawing/illustrator piece entitled “A Dream Within a Dream”. Thank you for your submission Lyndsey. I really like the clean lines and simplicity of this rendering.

Lyndsey says this about her piece:

this was actually inspired from a fashion ad i saw in a
magazine. i love drawing women and the figure. simplicity is also something that i have come to appreciate.

If you would like to be featured on Artist Hideout please see how you can submit your work here.

Skulls, bones and other art

Skulls, bones and other art

I recently received an email from a Mr. Dark who likes to draw bones and skulls. Besides my initial reaction of “hey, this is really good!” was the morbid factor which encompassed with the anatomical renderings of a Mr. Dark led me to the final conclusion of “hey, this is really good!”

Rendering the dead has long been a part of traditional art. Artists were employed by early doctors and scientists to make models, drawings and paintings of various skin diseases, maladies, and sicknesses as well as the eventual death of many of these patients, with autopsy drawings when …read more

My Favorite Art Tool

My Favorite Art Tool

Hsien over at Play Library posed a question today on “what is your favorite craft tool?” I would probably say that mine is my camera. Looking through old images often inspires me to create.
Hit up Hsien and let her know what you guys think too.

Ashley Cecil: The Art Journalist

Ashley Cecil: The Art Journalist

Ashley Cecil submitted this piece to me this last week. I’ve been spending some time looking at Ashley’s work on her site and have been quite surprised at the variety of work that she has done.

While much of Ashley’s work is journalistic in style, there is a definitive look to her painting which has the water color appeal even in her oil paintings. This is not a bad thing though, Ashley has remained very detailed while often working on smaller scales than traditional artists usually do. I prefer her larger images due to the outstanding detail and color that is …read more
