Artist Hideout

How to (try to) understand Abstract Art.

by William Lehman on October 16th, 2007

This is a revisited comic based off of one I did last week on my personal (what is becoming my cartoon) site, www.decloned.com

Now I am not down on abstract art in any way.  Most of mine is abstract too.  I just think that as any kind of artist, we must come to the realization that not everyone is going to understand our work, in fact… count on it.

Of course this is true no mater what your art form is. If you do landscapes there will be someone out there that says, “It would have been faster and clearer in a photograph.” Or if you make textile art, someone will think, “Well, that’s nothing special.” No matter what form of art you take, someone will either dislike it, question it, or not get it at all. But then, it doesn’t really matter, as long as one person out there likes it!
