  I am pretty sure those are Kildeer bird eggs. The adults are mostly tan and off white, but very beautiful. They usually lay their eggs in rocky areas like the photo you took. You should see the adults around making a lot of noise if you are near the nest.

  LOL, you described the bird that fluffed up it’s feathers and tried to run my 3 year old cousin off…

  And yeah… it made a fair amount of noise too… but it was sure funny to watch with it’s feathers all poofed out trying to chase a little fearless three year old who didn’t back down.

  The kildeer parents will run around and do a thing called “broken wing.” They pretend that one of their wings is broken and run around looking like their wing is broken. They do this to bring your attention to the adult who is trying to get you to move away from the nest. They make a lot of noise, too.

  Did the adult birds look like one of their wings was broken and run around with one wing that looked like the adult couldn’t use it?

  Here are a couple of pictures of the adult and another picture of a nest of the kildeer.

  Kildeer are one of my favorite birds because they are so fun to watch. I graduated from college as a wildlife biologist and in my bird (ornithology) class, we had to do a small research project about some species of bird. You’ll never guess what bird I chose: yes, the kildeer during nesting season.

  Be careful about going to the nest to check on the eggs all the time. I found that crows (I think) were watching us and found the nests and ate the eggs. Most of the nests I was watching has their eggs eaten before they hatched. Something else could have eaten the eggs, like racoons, but I thought it was a racoon.

  Yeah, it did the broken wing thing, but it also fluffed up the feathers on it’s head… looked like it had a mohawk going on. These eggs are right in the middle of the driveway and are probably getting baked by the sun with their location. No shade at all. Very pretty birds though.

  Oops, I made an error in the last message. I said “Something else could have eaten the eggs, like raccoons, but I thought it was a raccoon.” The last word “raccoon,” I meant to say crow.

  I have a nest in my yard and yes they are kildeer eggs. Its been about 4 or 5 weeks and the eggs did not hatch yet mom and dad are still there anything to worry about?

  I wish I knew. Are the parents still protective of the eggs?
