Judi Cahill: What Art Means to Me

Judi Cahill: What Art Means to Me

Our second submission for the contest comes from Judi Cahill:

Art is everything and anything in the world. Since I was a child I loved colors and textures of art. As I grew older I loved the sounds of art. I would paint or create. When I wanted to study art my parents discouraged me. When I didn’t finish school art was a distant memory until I was pregnant with my first child at eighteen, everything became art again. The whole creation process of carrying a child stimulated my energy for art. I began to write poetry and sketch. Now, seven …read more

Hooked on Steampunk

Hooked on Steampunk

Over the last few days I’ve really gotten hooked on the Steampunk art that I’ve seen.
Ranging from Guitars to laptops to even vehicles this strange genre of art has quite a following.
It is best summed up in the following statement I found about it.

The ideas behind the steampunk sci-fi subgenre have been around since Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, but it was given its moniker in the late ’80s as a speculative-fiction genre, alongside cyberpunk, ribofunk and splatterpunk. While the others peer 15 minutes into the future, steampunk envisions a future that has collapsed onto a re-imagined Victorian …read more

Of Concepts and Ideas

Of Concepts and Ideas

I’ve been known to not think things through all the way before I do them. In this, I guess I am a bit impulsive. I’ll put together an entire idea in my head, then act on it… then come back in the morning when I am wide awake and realize how much I didn’t think through the plan.

Are you linking to me?

It’s hard sometimes to know where all the links are coming from. So I decided I should make this simple. If you are linking to Artist Hideout somewhere on your site, let me know in the comments below.
Also, I am running a guest post contest. I’d love to have a few more people participate. The winner gets a prize of $50 (or more).

Child prodigy finger painting.

Child prodigy finger painting.

Every now and then there is one of these Child prodigy types of people who just pop out against the background of the art community and really amaze us. Now this kid isn’t quite a Leonardo yet, but he can sure paint him. The teenage mutant ninja turtle version anyway.

To name or not to name?

To name or not to name?

I am waiting for the paint to dry on my new painting. It’s a little different than most of my paintings, since it incorporates assemblage. But while it’s drying over the next few days, I will be working to try to either come up with a name or decide on whether I want to leave it untitled.
See how many things you can recognize in the painting with the close-ups below.

Women in Art: Pretty cool video

Women in Art: Pretty cool video

The video below struck me as pretty creative as it involves so many works of art morphing into each other with a common theme.
Enjoy.
