Project Idea in the making.
There is a project that I have been wanting to try for a long time, but have yet been able to work it out. The idea has been floating for years in my head. But as it’s there, I figure I should at least spill it out and see what kinda of motivation I could get for actually starting it. Maybe some of you have some great ideas on making this work effectively.
The idea is this:
To take old maps and arrange pieces of them in such a way as to create a large portrait out of them using the roads as lines to create the detail. The size I am thinking is 4′ x 8′ using a piece of plywood as the backing. Yes, large!
Some ideas of people for this portrait that have come to mind:
A self portrait is pretty much out of the question, especially that large so I have thought about a crucifix in regards to faith. I have thought about an old model t to celebrate the great American roadway but then I thought how cliché that would be. My final thought was that of a large detour sign, or one that said bridge out ahead. I can see the humor in that.
any thoughts? have you ever seen something like that? I’d love to see an example if you have.

I *like* the idea of the model t. I don’t see that as being too cliche at all!

LOL… Really? the more I am thinking about it I think I may go with a muscle car though… It’s still a pretty fresh concept. Today I thought I’d add some topographical maps for some shading and a cross-hatching effect.
