Artist Hideout

Take a Refreshing Break

by William Lehman on April 27th, 2007

scanned 016Okay, there is a part to writing and drawing everyday that can get to you. I honestly don’t know how comic strip artists do it on a daily basis.

I’ve been going through one of those phases as of late.

I am in the middle of getting over that hurdle. Here are a few steps I have taken to make life just a little clearer in terms of just being able to get things done again and get those creative juices flowing.

  • Cleaned the house (see tips here)
  • got rid of a bunch of extra stuff (sent it all off to the church yard sale this week)
  • Read two novels in two completely different genres. (“Patrick” by Stephen Lawhead & “Prey”, by Michael Crichton)
  • Got rid of a few extra things by giving them away. (like an extra blog I was running, www.relevantmessage.org)
  • Completely cleared out my overflowing inbox by archiving it all and replying to only the most urgent emails.
  • Oh, and bought an xbox 360 and played some Oblivion

It been pretty much like a mini vacation where I still accomplished a lot of things in the meantime. I think I can come back to the drawing board/keyboard with a little more confidence now.

About comic artists doing it daily - I cannot agree with you more.

I never could complete a comic… I do two or three pages and trail off. [:P]
