Technical Detail vs Artistic License
I have a battle that seems to endlessly rage on for me as I create different works of art on my own. It’s the idea that there seems to be a technical way of 
achieving certain results with certain medias, and there’s my own way which changes from time to time.
For myself, I know that lots of technical detail can drive me nuts. There are certain aspects of any work that might call for technical detail, but overall I tent to be more on the artistic license side of things. It may be because I am lazy or it could 
mean that I just like the feel of natural art that I enjoy over detailed work that I feel I enslave myself to for the duration of the piece. I’m okay with that as long as I realize it and don’t try to present things the way the really are not.
Here is my interpretation of the photograph that I took earlier. I liked the books in the back and some of the shading elements in the photograph that I tried to instill in the drawing.
I did not like the placement of the glasses in the photograph being in the center, so bumped them left and widened the depth of field, giving the book a larger appearance in the drawing.
The dimensions of the final drawing “Study” are 11″x14″ on Bristol Board with Charcoal. Completed today.
