Working with Shades of Gray: Painting Fish 1

I was feeling slightly ambitious today (common Monday trait for me) and decided to start this painting this morning. I found the above image on www.sxc.hu

My camera seems to be acting up and is giving everything a pinkish hue so here is the best I could do in terms of showing you the current state of this painting. I had to do some post editing to even get this…. arghh.

My fore-shortening skills need a little work I am noticing. That is partly why I chose this subject for a painting. Also there is the factor of working with a reflective animal all in black and white.

It’s funny how when you work with something at this angle, your mind wants to attach certain limitations on how it looks.

This is one of my biggest complaints so far on this project.
